Funeral services for Amy Northup, age 95, of Osborne, will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 17, 2010 at the Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home in Stockton with Reverend Elton Hunter officiating. Mrs. Northup passed away Sunday, June 13, 2010 at the Parkview Care Center in Osborne. She was born February 20, 1915 on the family farm southwest of the original town of Webster the daughter of Clyde and Maude (Glass) McCormick. She graduated from the Webster High School and on May 15, 1935, she married Elvin J. Northup in Webster. In 1944, they purchased the local grocery store in Webster and built their home on the back of the store. The store burned and they rebuilt in 1946, at which time Amy became Postmaster and they added the post office to the store. In 1953, the Webster Dam was completed and the family moved to Woodston, Kansas where Elvin was employed at the Rooks County State Bank. They also built the Dairy Treat, a successful ice cream and sandwich shop on the highway. Amy worked there and sold Avon until she went to work at the Rooks County Bank with Elvin. Amy worked there for thirteen years before she and Elvin retired. She loved having a large vegetable and flower garden, most of which were given to neighbors and friends. She had a great sense of humor and often played jokes on her family. Amy was a great cook and was known for her wonderful apple pies. She and Elvin enjoyed fishing, traveling, and visiting all the states and Mexico. Amy had continued to live alone and care for her home in Osborne until recently. Survivors include her son Keith and wife Joan Northup of Woodston; daughters Jaunita and husband John LeVan of Pine, Colorado, Daisy Orr of Hill City; grandchildren Brian Northup, Anne Bremerman, John Northup, Angela Steeby, Cathy Cooter, Steven Orr, James Orr, great grandchildren Jamie Nichols, Jessie Bremerman, Jake Bremerman, Lydia Steeby, Keith Steeby, Casey Cooter, Christopher Orr, Colen Orr; and great grandchild Cord. She was preceded in death by her husband Elvin on September 10, 1993, and six siblings. Burial will be in the Webster addition of the Stockton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 Tuesday, 9-8 Wednesday, and from 9 – service time Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Osborne County Hospice and may be sent in care of the Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home, 723 N. First, Stockton, Kansas 67669.
