Funeral services for Alva E. Beck, age 73, of Stockton will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 13, 2011 at the Stockton United Methodist Church in Stockton with Pastor Steve Slate officiating. Mr. Beck passed away Thursday, June 9, 2011 on his farm near Stockton. He was born September 1, 1937 the son of Erle and Leona (Chrysler) Beck. He grew up near Natoma and graduated from Natoma High School. He then attended Emporia State University. Alva built grain elevators and custom harvested when he was younger and for most of his life he farmed near Stockton. He served his country in the United State Army, and was a life member of the Monroe-Taylor-Barnes VFW Post #8873 serving as commander. Alva enjoyed camping and attending the Kansas State Fair. On December 20, 1958, he married Dena Elliott in Akron, Colorado. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his daughters Deborah & husband Steve Hahn of Stockton, Connie Floyd of Sikeston, Missouri; sons Rob & wife Mary Ellen Beck of Stockton, Rick Beck of Stockton; brother Alan Beck of Atchison, Kansas; sisters Carol Kimball of Urich, Missouri, Lela Glatz of Salem, Wisconsin, Linda Fry of Woodston, Kansas; 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Burial with military honors provided by the Monroe-Taylor-Barnes VFW Post #8873 will be in the Kansas Veterans Cemetery at WaKeeney, Kansas at 3:30 p.m. Monday. Cremation is planned and visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Monroe-Taylor-Barnes VFW Post #8873 or the Alva Beck Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of the Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home, 723 N.
