Alice A. Turner

May 10, 1914 — August 7, 2012

Alice Aileen Turner was born May 10, 1914 to Chester and Myrtle (Cooper) Miner in the Adell Township in Sheridan County, Kansas. She passed away at the Sandstone Heights Nursing Home in Little River, Kansas on August 7, 2012. Alice attended the Chicago Church and School, Jennings School and graduated from Hoxie High School in 1933. In 1921 the family moved to Centralia, WA. That same year Alice’s mother passed away and eleven years later the family returned to Hoxie, KS. Alice was united in marriage to Alfred N. Turner August 9, 1933 in Hoxie, KS. To this union a daughter, Ruth, and a son, James Turner were born. Alice’s first priorities were being a wife, mother and homemaker. After her children went to school she worked several jobs. She worked at the telephone company as a telephone operator, Shaw’s Jewelry, and Hoxie Motor Co. She also was a probate judge pro-tem and a clerk in the County Treasurer’s office until she retired in 1993. She was a member of the United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for many years. She loved and lived for the Lord Jesus and all who knew her recognized her devotion to Him. She lived by the Golden Rule, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” She was a wonderful mother and Grandma. Preceding her in death were her husband, Al; her parents; 8 brothers and sisters; her son Jim; Grandson Brad Krizek; Great-grandson Daniel Turner; and 2 sons-in-law Ed Krizek and Al Thiessen. Survivors include daughter Ruth Krizek of Salina, KS; daughter-in-law Beverly Turner of Hill City, KS; 6 grandchildren, Craig Krizek (Lisa) of Norton, KS, Brian Krizek (Kim) of McPherson, KS, Curtis Krizek (Jennifer) of Shawnee Mission, KS, Dennis Turner and Sheryl Turner both of Denver, CO, and Kevin Turner of Morland, KS; 10 great-grandchildren, Dane Krizek, Claire, Graham & Cole Krizek, Ford, Lindsay & Kylie Krizek, Jesse Turner, and Brianna Martinez.; and 2 great-great-grandchildren Brooklyn Martinez and Logan Martinez. Sometimes God places people in our lives who help and encourage us, even when we don’t know it. Alice’s words and actions during her life demonstrated her faith in such a way that God’s message to us was preached even when there was no sermon. As family and friends share the loss of Alice, our hearts will grow stronger for her memory.
