Albert K. Stillman

Albert K. Stillman, 79, Hoxie, died February 19, 2016, in Hoxie. He was born November 27, 1936, in rural Sheridan County to William Albert and Marie (Gaede) Stillman. He was initiated into Immanuel Lutheran Church by Baptism December 6, 1936 and reaffirmed his faith in confirmation, April 2, 1950. As a child, Albert attended first through sixth grade at Bloomfield District 58 in rural Sheridan County. He completed his elementary education at Immanuel Lutheran Parochial School. He received his high school diploma from Menlo Consolidated School. Upon graduation, he received two years of higher education from St. John’s Lutheran College in Winfield, Kansas. Albert served his country for two years as a soldier in the U.S. Army. He married Elizabeth Ann Bieker on August 8, 1968, at Saint Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Hoxie. He set type for the Hoxie Sentinel for 16 years before joining First Insurance Agency. He later became a co-owner of the Agency. He was a lifelong farmer, learning his craft on the family farm and later sharing his expertise with other area farmers. Farming is where his heart truly was. Albert loved to maintain an active social life. His favorite activities included golfing and bowling with his many buddies, playing cards with family, racing and crashing cars (on purpose), attending his grandchildren’s music and sports activities, and having spirited reunions with his “Johnny Friends”—his former classmates at St. John’s and their wives. He also served his community as a volunteer firefighter and ambulance driver. Survivors include his wife, of the home; daughter Ruth Ann and Mike Becker and their children Jordann Nicole and Joshua Nolan Becker of Scott City; Sandra Marie and Richard Weber and their children Anniston Ann, Madison Elizabeth, and Bryson Albert Weber of Hays; son Karl and Jodee (Carman) Stillman and their children Cash Alexander of Hoxie and Mackenzie and Ryan Blecha of Oceanside, California; and sister Lyla and Norbert Harold of Fredericksburg, Virginia. Albert was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Garnold Stillman and William “Bill” Stillman; sister, Verbena Brace; and his daughter, Stephanie Lynn Stillman. Services will be held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hoxie, 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, February 24, 2016. Burial will follow the service and will be in the Hoxie City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, February 23, 2016, at Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, Hoxie. Family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hoxie Sheridan County Benefit Walk or Hospice Services, Inc. of Northwest Kansas, and may be sent in care of Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, P.O.
