Ada Mae Bruna, of Plainville, KS passed away on April 14, 2024, at the Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton, KS, at the age of 91. She was born on April 17, 1932, in Phillips County, KS to Floyd Melborn and Ruth Norma (Rosenberg) Christoffersen. She married Kenneth L. Bruna on August 17, 1951. They were blessed with two sons: Mike and Pat.
Ada was born and grew up on a farm in Phillips County. She met Ken at Cudahy Packing Plant, where she plucked feathers from chickens, and Ken worked on the dock. She also worked as a bookkeeper for Duckwall’s in Alma, NE. In 1964, they moved to Plainville and purchased Plainville Oil Service in 1972 from George Loper, where Ada took care of the company books.
Ada loved gardening, flowers, and making Christmas sugar cookies with her grandchildren and spending whatever time she could with them. She enjoyed watching birds and raising chickens. Annually, they would have family down for what we called, “the chicken kill” (about 100 fryers). Ada and Ken had such a love for dogs, especially their bulldogs which got them to want to raise money in Plainville for the Humane Society in Hays.
Ada will be remembered for her kind and beautiful spirit and her smile and love for God. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Stockton.
Ada is survived by her sons, Mike (Janet) Bruna of Plainville and Pat Bruna of Plainville; sister, Doris Bruna of Hastings, NE; two grandchildren, Mindy Workman and Hannah Rempe; and one great-grandson, Dawson Workman.
Preceding Ada in death are her parents; husband; brother, Ivan Christoffersen; grandson, Adam Bruna; and grandson-in-law, John Workman.
A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 11 AM at the Alma Cemetery in Alma, NE. Visitation will be on Friday, 5-8PM with family receiving friends 6-8PM at the funeral home in Plainville.
Memorials are suggested to High Plains Humane Society or Solomon Valley Manor and may be sent to Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home, 320 SW 2nd Street, Plainville, KS 67663.
